When, while the lovely valley teems with vapor around me, and the meridian sun strikes the upper surface of the impenetrable foliage of my trees, and but a few stray gleams steal into the inner sanctuary, I throw myself down among the tall grass by the trickling stream; and, as I lie close to the earth, a thousand unknown plants are noticed by me: when I hear the buzz of the little world among the stalks, and grow familiar with the countless indescribable forms of the insects and flies, then I feel the presence of the Almighty, who formed us in his own image, and the breath of that universal love which bears and sustains us, as it floats around us in an eternity of bliss; and then, my friend, when darkness overspreads my eyes, and heaven and earth seem to dwell in my soul and absorb its power, like the form of a beloved mistress, then I often think with longing, Oh, would I could describe these conceptions, could impress upon paper all that is living so full and warm within me, that it might be the mirror of my soul, as my soul is the mirror of the infinite God!

O my friend — but it is too much for my strength — I sink under the weight of the splendor of these visions! A wonderful serenity has taken possession of my entire soul, like these sweet mornings of spring which I enjoy with my whole heart. I am alone, and feel the charm of existence in this spot, which was created for the bliss of souls like mine. I am so happy, my dear friend, so absorbed in the exquisite sense of mere tranquil existence, that I neglect my talents. I should be incapable of drawing a single stroke at the present moment; and yet I feel that I never was a greater artist than now. When, while the lovely valley teems with vapor around me, and the meridian sun strikes the upper surface of the impenetrable foliage of my trees, and but a few stray gleams steal into the inner sanctuary, I throw myself down among the tall grass by the trickling stream; and, as I lie close to the earth, a thousand unknown plants are noticed by me: when I hear the buzz of the little world among the stalks, and grow familiar with the countless indescribable forms of the insects and flies, then I feel the presence of the Almighty, who formed us in his own image, and the breath of that universal love which bears and sustains us, as it floats around us in an eternity of bliss; and then, my friend, when darkness overspreads my eyes, and heaven and earth seem to dwell in my soul and absorb its power, like the form of a beloved mistress, then I often think with longing, Oh, would I could describe these conceptions, could impress upon paper all that is living so full and warm within me.

THE STORY OF HONOURABLE AKINDELE ADENIYI: A Pillar of Service and Political Impact in Akure North

Born over 60 years ago into the family of Chief and Chief Mrs Gabriel Adeniyi in Iju, Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, Honourable Akindele Adeniyi’s life has been one of dedication, service, and unwavering commitment to his community. His journey from a humble background to a significant political figure in Ondo State is a testament to his resilience and vision.

Hon. Adeniyi began his education at the renowned St. Stephen’s Primary School, Iju, where he laid the foundation for a life of learning and leadership from 1968 to 1977. His academic journey continued at Elu Iju High School between 1979 and 1984. With a keen interest in agriculture and development, he pursued a Bachelor of Technology in Farm Management and Agricultural Extension from the Federal University of Technology, Akure, completing his degree in 1990. He served his country with dedication during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) year between 1990 and 1991.

Even before venturing into the broader political arena, Hon. Adeniyi’s commitment to his community was evident. He served as Secretary of the Iju Elite Association from 1985 to 1990 and as Chairman of the Iju Youth Association from 1990 to 2009, playing a pivotal role in fostering unity and development in his hometown.

His political journey formally began with the National Republican Convention (NRC), where he served as an executive member for Ward Nine, Iju, from 1990 to 1992. This role expanded as he became an executive member of the NRC in Akure North Local Government between 1992 and 1993. His political acumen saw him appointed as a Ward Returning Officer during the NRC presidential primaries in 1992. He was also a National Delegate to the Port Harcourt Convention in 1993 and a delegate to the District Electoral College of the Constitutional Conference in 1994. His involvement in the Alliance for Democracy (AD) saw him serve as Treasurer from 1998 to 1999, further solidifying his role in shaping local and state politics.

“Akindele’s political career took a significant turn when he served as Vice Chairman of Akure North Local Government from 1999 to 2002, where he made substantial contributions to local governance.

His experience extended beyond the political sphere into public administration, as he served as a Senior Administrative Officer at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters in Abuja between 2003 and 2004. However, his passion for grassroots development prompted him to resign and return to active politics.

Hon. Adeniyi’s impact was most felt during his tenure as a two-term member of the Ondo State House of Assembly. As the Chairman of the House Committee on Works, he oversaw crucial infrastructure projects, including the timely completion of the Oba-Ile to Airport road—a key development that boosted connectivity and economic activities in the region. His ability to navigate complex political and administrative challenges earned him the moniker “GOC” (General Officer Commanding) in the 6th and 7th Assemblies, a testament to his strategic vision and ability to get things done.

During his time in the House, Hon. Adeniyi was known for his focus on community empowerment. He facilitated the provision of transformers to ensure stable electricity in places like Ogbese and Isinigbo Igoba. He was instrumental in constructing public poles across Akure North, benefiting communities such as Bolorunduro, Iluabo, Oba-Ile, Igoba, Iju, Itaogbolu, and Igbatoro. Understanding the importance of education, he distributed science laboratory equipment to secondary schools throughout the area and awarded scholarships to deserving students, ensuring that young minds in his constituency had opportunities to excel.

Hon. Adeniyi also focused on healthcare, providing essential drugs to maternities in the local government area and improving access to medical care for mothers and children. He supported local leadership by providing building materials like cement to traditional rulers, recognizing their roles in maintaining cultural heritage and stability.

Youth empowerment remained a core priority for him. He facilitated the distribution of motorcycles to young people in the Igbatoro area, providing them with a means of livelihood and mobility. His approach to leadership was always inclusive, ensuring that the needs of all segments of his community were addressed.

When asked about his aspirations, Hon. Adeniyi humbly stated that his current focus is on ensuring the victory of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, believing that his leadership would further transform Ondo State. He emphasized that the future development of Akure North rests on supporting the governor’s agenda for progress.

To the youth, Hon. Adeniyi’s message is clear: “Whatever you do, do it well. Emulate good leaders and contribute your own to the development of your community.” This philosophy has guided his own life and service, and he believes it is a recipe for long-lasting impact.

Looking ahead, Hon. Akindele Adeniyi’s vision remains centred on a prosperous Ondo State. He sees a future where the state’s potential is fully realized, where communities are better connected, and where opportunities abound for all. With his unwavering support for Governor Aiyedatiwa, he believes that Akure North is poised for even greater achievements and that the collective efforts of dedicated leaders can bring lasting progress.

Hon. Akindele Adeniyi’s story is not just one of political success; it is a narrative of service, resilience, and a deep love for community. As he continues to work towards a brighter future for Akure North, his legacy as a leader who made a real difference endures, inspiring others to follow in his footsteps.
